Space Whales: New Jams in the Northwest
Formed in 2019, Space Whales has committed themselves to bringing the best jams to the Pacific Northwest. With a wide-ranging repertoire of original music and covers, each show promises a unique experience for the audience- and the band themselves.
Space Whales has completed one LP, one EP, a single, and is in the process of making their second full-length record. The band also has released several live albums to date, most recently from July of 2025 in our hometown.
The band has shared stages with the likes of TAUK, Yak Attack, Spafford, SPUNJ, Bodhi Mojo, Sqwerv, and The All's Eye from Tucson, AZ to Seattle, WA, with many stops in between and too many friends to list.
The band is excited to work on their next record and keep the jams rolling on stages in the PNW and beyond.

The band:
just some guys making noises

David Skattebo
Guitars, Vocals
A native of Milwaukee, WI, David started the band with Matt after a chance meeting in a thread on Phish.net. David has been playing many different instruments since he was a teenager in metal bands, including a stint in Olympia's country-rock staple The Purple Shadows. When not spending weekends on stage or in a rehearsal studio, David is probably on a hiking trip in the mountains.

Matt Booth
Bass, Vocals
Matt grew up in the DC area, where he as a nerdy band kid started his first rock bands and finally decided to play bass at 19. After a relocation to the Northwest, he quickly worked his way into the music scene, gigging and recording with several groups before starting the band with David. When not on stage with Space Whales, Matt can be found playing with Olympia band The Lumen, working on various audio engineering projects, or playing with trains.

Chance Slater
Keyboards
Chance is a multi instrumentalist with a joy for jazz. A saxophonist by training, he has brought a melodic and wide sound to the band since joining the group full time as a keyboardist in 2021. Chance is usually found messing with synthesizers when not playing with Space Whales, The Lumen, or any of the many other musical projects he's an integral part of.

Kyler Walker
Drums, Vocals
Kyler has been the heartbeat of Space Whales since joining the group in 2022. With a background in classic rock, jazz, and prog, he quickly found a groove with the band and drives jams to new heights every day. In his free time, he enjoys photography and videography.
